Calandra Italian American Institute, is conducting a survey for a book on the growth and impact of Italian-American educators on the American education system. They are gathering information on the experience of Italian-American educators who have taught and administered in education over the last 70 years. If you or anyone you know are interested in participating, see the letter by President Josephine A. Maietta below.
  • The visit of Nello Musumeci, President of the region of Sicily, is a cause of celebration for New Jersey’s Sicilian community. It’s the occasion to reactivate the measures that have in the past kept alive the ties between Sicilian communities and their region of origin.
  • Meet Gabriel A. Battista
We are deeply affected by the passing of Gabriel A. Battista, NIAF Chair who left us on Monday, January 27. The i-Italy team is very saddened by his loss. To remember him and all that we learned from him, we decided to republish an interview conducted by Prof. Ottorino Cappelli in 2017, as part of the "Italian Leadership in America" project, a series co-produced by i-Italy and NIAF. Our deepest condolences to his family and the entire NIAF family.
  • Five women, two countries, one heart. This was the topic of discussion at New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, where Johanna Clapps Herman moved the audience talking about her new book “When I am Italian” and telling the tale of her journey, as a young 20-year-old girl, in search of her roots. American but also Italian, belonging to neither place or to both.
  • On Thursday, May 23, 2019 ,The National Council of Columbia Associations in Civil Service, celebrated 60 years of uniting and supporting Italian Americans in civil service and honored outstanding members of its large but close-knit community with an annual Awards Dinner Gala at El Caribe Country Club in Brooklyn.
  • Like every year, in occasion of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) 2019 New York Gala, members of New York’s Italian American community congregated at the iconic Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the achievements of outstanding members of the region’s Italian American and Italian Community.
  • Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (Photo Credit: ABC)
Let’s face it: the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony won’t be remembered as an Italian-American night, yet we owe a few rare highlights in an otherwise soporific TV gala to some Italian American artists. Thank you Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, and Nick Vallelonga (through the surprise victory of “Green Book”). Also, a shout out to Bob Persichetti and Italian Sara Pichelli for their “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which won Best Animated Feature.
