Tutt’altro che storici e diversificati, gli Oscar 2019 sono sembrati una carrellata di cattivo gusto, premi prevedibili, anche quando sono risultati “a sorpresa” come Green Book, e decisamente troppo politically correct. Let’s face it: the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony won’t be remembered as an Italian-American night, yet we owe a few rare highlights in an otherwise soporific TV gala to some Italian American artists. Thank you Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, and Nick Vallelonga (through the surprise victory of “Green Book”). It’s no coincidence that our voice is known as the “first instrument,” the first means of emitting sounds that were elaborate and pleasing (or displeasing, depending on the case).
  • I have dinner with Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato, the two eternal boys behind the successful restaurant chain in New York. Over a truffle pizza, burrata, and good wine they tell me their American story. Their friend and sommelier Alessandra Rotondi also joins us. Their new restaurant Serafina Meatpacking is about to open: “We came up with a menu just for adults. You must be at least 21 years old to order. It’s based on tequila.”
  • The popular singer talks eating disorders with a group of young female students during the “It's Our Turn” conference held in Los Angeles. She confessed she was bulimic and the constant vomiting was taking a toll on her voice.
  • On June 11, Euro Pride 2011, the pan-European international event dedicated to LGBT pride, was held in Rome and welcomed an international public of about 1 million people. The parade, which flooded the streets of Italy's capital, ended with a show by Lady Gaga, the extraordinary and spectacular contemporary italian-american music icon.
