Interview with Franco Maresco, director of Tony Scott, ovvero come l’Italia fece fuori il più grande clarinettista del jazz [I am Tony Scott: How Italy Got Rid of the Greatest Jazz Clarinetist].
The documentary tells the life story of Italian-American musician Anthony Joseph Sciacca who was born in Salemi, Italy and considered god of the clarinet between 1930 and 1950. He played in the clubs on 52nd Street with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Billie Holliday.
The documentary, a true slice of American musical history, will be screened for the first time in the United States in New York City on October 2. The initiative was made possible by ANFE (National Association of Emigrants) and the Calandra Institute.
The film will be introduced Antonio Monda (NYU), Anthony J. Tamburri (CUNY), and Gaetano Calà (ANFE).
