The Broadway musical “Nine” is soon going to be reproduced by Rob Marshall in film version. The movie, based on Federico Fellini’s life, will feature a cast of Hollywood and international stars, among which Nicole Kidman, Daniel Day-Lewis, Judy Dench, Kate Hudson and Fergie. And, of course, Sophia Loren.
The Neapolitan actress has announced her participation today while visiting her hometown, Naples, in occasion of the annual Piedigrotta street festival: ''It's going to be a very exciting experience because I haven't done a musical since 'Carosello Napoletano','' an Italian comedy produced in the early 1950s that contributed to increase her popularity in Hollywood.
Sophia will play the role of Fellini’s mother. The 73-year-old cinema legend has indeed said with great pride that director Marshall has conceived the role with her in mind: ''He wanted me in the film and I'm very happy to be in it. It's every Italian's dream to be in an American musical”.
“I adore music and always liked seeing Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire as a kid. Musicals make you feel alive'', adds Sophia, enthusiastic of the new project. It will bring her back on the big screen after four years of absence.
Marshall, who obtained amazing success with the musical Chicago in 2002, will shoot the movie in London.
