    Eataly is the biggest market for Italian products in the world, so what better way to celebrate its tenth anniversary than with a toast? For this occasion, the beautiful Eataly NYC Downtown location was transformed into a vineyard to host Slow Wine 2017’s New York event. Every year the traveling Slow Wine event offers small and medium-sized Italian wine producers the chance to present themselves to the international market.

    Luciano Pignataro, a journalist for Naples’ Il Mattino—the leading newspaper in Southern Italy—has spent the last thirty years writing about agriculture and the last twenty about enogastronomy. His is the longest running column on wine in an Italian paper. He is the representative of two southern regions for Slow Wine, Slow Food’s wine guide, and head of the Southern branch of the Guida Ristoranti Espresso. In 2004 he began a blog (www.lucianopignataro.it), now one of the most frequented in Italy, with almost five million hits in 2015 alone. The blog features reviews of wine, restaurants, pizzerias, pastry shops and cheeses. He has published many guides to wine and books on Neapolitan cuisine.

He wants to create awareness of the flaws in the way the food industry currently operates, which focuses solely on spectacle and consumerism.

    Expo 2015 is an innovative showcase. Unlike World Fairs of the past, its focus is more ideas than icons. Past universal expositions left majestic architectural monuments: London’s Crystal Palace from 1851, Paris’s Eiffel Tower from 1889, and Rome’s EUR district, still magnificent even though war canceled that Expo in 1942.
  • With the Expo Milano 2015 kick off date only a week away, many Italians are concerned that Milan will not be ready to host the 20 million people that are getting ready to file into the city for sixth months, the length of the world’s fair. The New York Times is not the only newspaper to recently release an article concerning the many controversies that have permeated the atmosphere of the Expo and Italy’s international image.
  • Celebrate Earth Day with Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini at the sunny Birreria, Eataly’s rooftop restaurant. Carlo will discuss his newest book, “Loving the Earth: Dialogues on the Future of Our Planet.” After the conference, will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
  • On February 2 & 3 Slow Food presented the 2015 edition of the Slow Wine guide at the VINO Italian Wine Week, tasting event open to industry professionals and consumers. The event included the presence of 73 producers (43 in the evening event) listed in the guide, with tasting of their outstanding wines.
