A new collection of poems by Franco D’Alessandro whose poetry possesses a high degree of emotional honesty and keen wit.
D’Alessandro is a two time recipient of the prestigious Edward Albee artists residency award. His Roman Nights is headed for the silver screen in 2010. Presented in collaboration with the Italian American Writers Association www.iawa.net

A presentation exploring the relationship between Pope Urban VIII and Galileo highlighting the astronomer’s controversial theories and relationship with the Church. Henry Paolucci’s collection of writings on the subject will also be discussed.

Listen as Giovanna Auriemma, host of Souvenir d’Italia interviews Cav. Uff. Joseph Sciame, President/Chairperson, Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of New York, as he discusses this year’s theme, which celebrates two great men: Galileo Galilei and Giuseppe Petrosino.

The festival celebrates the rich heritage and culture of Italian Americans. The festival includes, Food Piazza featuring regional Italian restaurants; Italian Market with Italian specialty products; Heritage Pavilion with art, memorabilia and historical artifacts; Cultural Theater with cooking demonstrations and authors; entertainment on two stages including national recording acts; amusement rides; Italian games including bocce; children’s entertainment; and fireworks.
