Tokyo 1943: Italian anthropologist Fosco Maraini and painter Topazia Alliata refused to sign allegiance to Mussolini. They were imprisoned with their three daughters, Dacia, Yuki and Toni. Today, Toni’s daughter Mujah explores her family’s experience and legacy by trying to bring their memories to life by retracing their steps in her own journey to Japan.

With the screening of Santiago, Italia by Nanni Moretti we begin a journey into the world of Italian documentary, a genre that represents one of the most interesting and innovative areas of contemporary Italian cinema. Works by directors such as Gianfranco Rosi or Roberto Minervini have been selected and have received awards from major international festivals such as Venice, Berlin and Cannes.

Three years after My Mother, Nanni Moretti, releases a documentary about the role that Italy played in Pinochet's coup in Chile, in September 1973.

Federico Faggin - Italian Creators of our Time Series

The second talk of the series is with Federico Faggin, an Italian physicist, inventor and entrepreneur, widely known for designing the first commercial microprocessor (1971) and leading the design group of the 4004 (MCS-4) project, during the first five years of Intel's microprocessor effort. Most importantly, in 1968, while working at Fairchild Semiconductor, he had also created the self-aligned MOS silicon gate technology (SGT), that made possible dynamic memories, non-volatile memories, CCD image sensors, and the microprocessor.
