  • Following its success in New York and Chicago, Eataly landed in Boston late last year. After its original strongholds—the fish restaurant Il Pesce, and a pop-up restaurant called La Cucina—Eataly Boston has now added a grilled-cuisine restaurant, Terra, which includes a Barrel Room where you can taste artisanal beers directly from the barrel.

    Italian institutions celebrate June 2nd and italianità. An entire day filled with the best in Italian food, classic and contemporary art, and jazz. Community representatives inaugurated the design of the Consulate General of Italy’s new waiting room. Also noteworthy was the presence of Italian Ambassador Armando Varricchio, who presented awards to Frank Bisignano and Jhumpa Lahiri .

  • The Mobile Care Clinic and one of the women who got her screening
    The American-Italian Cancer Foundation operates with the mission to support cancer research, education, and control. Among its many successes in improving cancer research through the years, the Foundation has conducted outstanding work in helping economically disadvantaged and medically underserved New York City women learn about breast cancer awareness and treatment. In this regard, AICF had the idea of providing a mobile care clinic that drives throughout the city, giving the opportunity to have clinical breast exams and to educate on self-breast awareness. Last April 21st, the mobile clinic stopped in front of The Ryan Women and Children’s Center for a breast cancer screening event sponsored by Italian food company Colavita USA.

    Composer of music, producer, mentor, and impresario–Paola Prestini is a brilliant talent of Italian origin. Founder of VisionIntoArt, an interdisciplinary art company, Prestini is also the Creative Director of National Sawdust, a non-profit venue with the mission of being a platform for contemporary artists to see their visions shine through. This May 3rd, the National Sawdust organization will present its spring gala honoring Renée Fleming, Philip Glass, and artist Helga Davis, among prestigious guests like actress Julianne Moore. We had the chance to meet up with Paola and interview her about her career and her experiences with National Sawdust.

    Journalist, writer, interior designer, filmmaker, and restaurateur, Alberto Baudo used all of his experience and creativity to open Fabbrica, his Italian restaurant near the Williamsburg waterfront–a formerly industrial area in Brooklyn. More than just a simple restaurant, Fabbrica is a “factory” of ideas that puts a modern twist on traditional Italian gastronomy, all in a space that is rich in events–from live concerts to art and poetry.
  • The Tallone Lettering
    The Italian Academy of New York’s Columbia University hosted a presentation on Alberto Tallone Editore, one of Europe’s most important publishing houses and typographic studios. The event was held on the occasion of Alexander Goren’s donation of his private collection of Tallone books. The New York philanthropist and businessman donated more than 400 books to Columbia’s Butler Library.

L’evento si è tenuto in occasione della donazione di una collezione privata di libri Tallone conservata da Alexander Goren. Il filantropo e businessman newyorchese, ha donato alla Butler Library della Columbia più di 400 libri.

    At New York's Italian restaurant Il Gattopardo, owner and restaurateur Gianfranco Sorrentino hosted a Members & Press Cocktail Reception for the non-profit organization Gruppo Italiano (GI), which promotes authentic Italian cuisine in the US. The night featured many guest speakers and the presentation of the GI Scholarship Program. Part of GI's mission, in fact, is to assist Italian students and professionals to come and work in the US, where they will learn how to tell their country’s culture through dining experiences. i-Italy by the way, is glad to announce its media partnership with GI, whose mission it shares in full.
